Looking for a familiar Excel interface
DÜRR DENTAL wanted to find a customizable, scalable controlling solution. The organization was looking for a modern reporting platform to complement its existing Excel reporting and offer a uniform worldwide view of the different business units. After comparing other solutions, Jedox was selected. Among the key decision factors was the unrivaled flexibility of the platform, as well as the simple and straightforward integration with other data sources.
Connecting to data sources easily
Implementing its sales reporting was the first step. For this purpose, the existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems Epicor (USA) and IFS (Germany) connected via the Jedox interface, and the data sources of the different branches were integrated. The core of the sales reporting is a clear sales dashboard, which displays the most important key figures of the entire group of companies, including jump reports for detailed analyses as well as budget and previous year comparisons. Whereas sales reports used to only become available several days after the end of the month, the figures are now available at all the directly connected companies daily. The data from the group’s other companies is available at the latest on the second working day of the following month. After the successful commissioning of the sales application, the Jedox solution gradually expanded and was rolled out to various departments worldwide.
Expanding Jedox globally
An important step for DÜRR DENTAL in improving its reporting was the mapping of sophisticated contribution margin (CM) accounting. The resulting contribution margin dashboard supports detailed database (DB) invoices at the business unit level, product groups, sales groups, countries, articles, and customers with a high degree of complexity up to multi-level inter-company mapping. In the area of financial reporting, the month-end closing is an overall process in a status dashboard. Using an upload widget into Excel templates, the individual financial statements are used to prepare the company statements. Especially helpful for consolidation and intercompany (IC) reconciliation is an automatic currency conversion, showing foreign exchange rates with reduced weighting (e.g., MTH, YTD, or month-end rate). Other departmental applications include complaints management in the service area through analyses of costs and processing times of complaints, as well as quality management through QS key figures such as complaint and error rates.
For budgeting, the complete sales planning process is mapped in Jedox. An integrated workflow enables efficient planning in the following dimensions: company, country, product group, and months, with the planning values of quantity, sales and average price. Also, different versions of the forecast calculation are utilized. The head office has an overview in real time of the complete workflow and can intervene promptly if necessary. The detailed planning data ultimately forms the basis for decided plan/actual comparisons and action-oriented deviation analyses.
Because Jedox is so easy to use, the finance and controlling team of DÜRR DENTAL can now implement organizational or technical changes mostly independently in the system for larger development projects, which has allowed them to move more quickly than before.
Jedox enables DÜRR DENTAL to achieve effective performance management with consistent key performance indicators, which will continue to be used throughout the organization. DÜRR DENTAL continually explores how the solution can be expanded to optimize value creation.
